How to play Sudoku
Sudoku is a puzzle where you fill a 9×9 grid with the numbers 1 to 9. There are just three rules.
- Each row contains 1–9 exactly once.
- Each column contains 1–9 exactly once.
- Each 3×3 box outlined in bold contains 1–9 exactly once.
Controls
Tap a cell, then tap a number below to fill it in. Turn on Notes to write small candidate numbers. On a keyboard, type numbers, move with the arrow keys and press N to toggle notes.
Tips for beginners
- Start with cells where only one number fits. Rule out the numbers already in the same row, column and box, and the one left over is the answer.
- Or look the other way: find a number that has only one place it can go in a row, column or box.
- When you get stuck, write candidates as notes and clear them from nearby cells each time you place a number.
How do the difficulty levels differ?
Easy puzzles can be solved to the end with just the basic tips above. Higher levels start with fewer numbers and need you to compare candidates across several cells. Every puzzle has exactly one solution.
